. president obama and mitt romney are campaigning across several key states this weekend. both candidates will be in colorado, ohio, iowa, and virginia, while romney will also be making a stop in pennsylvania and new hampshire. and it is taking some voters up to four hours to cast their ballots in florida. one of the election's most crucial swing states. remember, early voting in florida started a week later than it did in 2008 because of a new state law. the republican state legislature reduced the number of early voting days from 14 down to 8. there are just three days left until election day and the presidential race is pretty darn tight. the candidates are making a final push through the swing states, looking for any advantage along the way. joining me now to talk about the president's final flurry is the national communications director for the obama campaign. brent, good morning. thanks for being here with us. tell me, what is the strategy for these last three days? >> look, for this last push, it's pretty simple. we want to be as many places as we can, as many times as we can befor

the election day, president obama and mitt romney will both be hitting the final battleground states very, very hard. we've got a look at some new polling in a few of these states, "the wall street journal"/nbc/marist poll shows the president with a six-point lead over mitt romney in iowa, a three-point lead in wisconsin, and a very small two-point edge in new hampshire. i'm joined by mark preston live in washington. mark, there's been a lot of talk about the president's handling of hurricane sandy and how it might affect this race. we get a glimpse of what americans think about this handling in a new poll by abc/"washington post." 78% of voters approve of the president's response, 44% say they approve of mitt romney's reaction. neither candidate is seeking to politicize this were tragedy overtly. but it really does beg the question, how could this affect this race? >> it certainly puts the president in the position of being a commander in chief and being the leader at the time of a crisis. and in many ways, he's gotten a lot of support of one of mitt romney's top surrogates, and that's chris c
, obama and romney both claim that they were and still are for a balanced budget. reality. the obama budget this year was $1 trillion in deficits. the paul ryan budget which passed the u.s. house was $600 billion in deficit. i have the courage to submit a balanced budget if i'm elected president right after i'm inaugurated. secondly, i am for jobs and america for american citizens first, and the only candidate that has called for a near complete moritorium on green card admissions to the united states until unemployment is under 5%. it makes no sense to bring in so many foreign workers when our unemployment is so high in this country. . in the first debate, we had kind of an ironic moment in which governor romney was both confirming that he would not put new revenue on the table and saying that he was going to be bipartisan and get a solution. you can't sit down with the democrats and say, "i'm going to be bipartisan," and not offer anything. what the republicans have to offer is revenue. and what the democrats have to offer is spending cuts. and in that grand bargain which fell apart because neither could appease their own base effectively, they had both cuts and revenue on the table. that's where we're going to have to go for a solution. my worry is the country doesn't know that's what's going to happen. >> kathleen, how would your experience differ if you had watched on nbc, fox, pbs, cnn? did it make a difference which network you were watching? >> yes, the networks that held much of the debate in split screen invited you to see the debate through the reaction of the candidate who wasn't speaking. >> and you think that's significant? >> i think it's significant because it minimizes the likelihood that you're hearing what's

in the way. the october jobs report will be released in three and a half hours. both the obama and romney campaign hope the numbers will help them in the race. it's too close to call right now. christine romans is going to have a look at it. christine? >> let's talk about what we are expecting in the final economic report before tuesday. in three and a half hours, we'll find out what happens for jobs and the unemployment rate. the expectation is the unemployment rate is 7.9%, picking up slightly with 125,000 jobs added in the month. the trend, though, is what is so important here, right? sometimes you get a little in the month. the trend is what's important. 7.8% was the unemployment rate when the president took office. last month, he's back to where he started. february, 2009, that's the stimulus. then the unemployment rate rise up to 10% in october, 2009 as the stimulus money was being deployed. stubbornly high unemployment. then drifting lower much of this year. we can look at job creation and you can see how jobs have been added now since the end of 2010 consistently, but not robustly

. you were to be out campaigning on behalf of the romney ryan ticket. both the presidential contenders have agreed to cancel events in virginia so you can move forward with storm plans. i want to look at polls at how tight it is in the commonwealth. our latest poll has the romney ryan ticket up by two points. there is a new poll out from the washington post which gives the president a four-point advantage in virginia. ultimately boil it down to the average it is a tee right now, 47.8% for each ticket. how does the romney camp close strong and bring home the commonwealth for republicans? >> i do appreciate governor roesterday and checking on the weather situation and agreeing to cancel three events today. the president tomorrow as well. i think it is probably a dead heat but momentum clearly moving towards governor romney and it is because the issues really matter to virginia voters are in romney's favor. the jobs picture. governor romney has a plan. the president presided over 43 months of 8% unemployment. the crushing debt that is going to get worse under the president. governor romne
